Sardi Cicli, a passion for cycling since 1935

How it all started

Nonno luigi in macchina

Our history begins in 1935, when our grandfather, Luigi, in quality of manager of Pedale Monzese, a local amateur bicycle team, achieves numerous victories thanks to athletes such as Giorgio Albani, Fiorenzo Crippa, Tonino Domenicali, Pietro Musone, Gaudenzio Tonoli and Luigi Ratti.

In 1946, his passion for bicycles makes Luigi open a business activity together with his brother, Ambrogio, to sell bicycles and bicycle accessories to wholesalers. This is the beginning of a great adventure that is still going on nowadays.

During the sixties, while handling his business activity, Luigi becomes Team Manager of Professional Teams such as Philco (with Fiorenzo Magni as Technical Director and Ernesto Colnago as Mechanic) and San Pellegrino (with Gino Bartali as Technical Director). Mentor and manager of great athletes like Vittorio Adorni, Guido Carlesi, Franco Bitossi, Emile Daems, Rolf Graf, Joseph Planckaert, Joseph "Jos" Hoevenaers, Ferdinando Terruzzi, Arturo Sabbadin, Alfredo Sabbadin, Marino Vigna, Silvano Ciampi, Giacomo Fini, Cesare Pinarello, Giorgio Zancanaro, Sante Gaiardoni Enzo Sacchi e Leandro Faggin.

With his athletes, Luigi wins numerous competitions at national and international level, including: the Milan-Sanremo, Giro di Lombardia, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Giro di Sardegna, Tour de Suisse, Giro di Toscana, Giro dell'Appennino, Giro del Ticino, Giro di Campania, Bernocchi Cup, Six Days of Perth, GP du Parisien, a Bronze Medal at the Road Bicycle World Championship and several stages at Giro d'Italia and Tour de France.

trofei vinti

Great champions such as Fiorenzo Magni, Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali owe a lot to the friendship and professionalism of our dear Grandfather, Luigi.

In the following years, his daughter, Gabriella, and his son, Armando (an award-winning athletics champion who took part to Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 and Tokyo in 1964) starts helping Luigi with his business activity.

As member of the Italian Professional Technical Commission together with Alfredo Martini, Luigi wins the World Championship in Venezuela in 1977, he becomes also member of the Australian Professional Technical Commission, training athletes such as Russel Mockridge and Sid Patterson. In quality of Deputy-Director, he organizes various editions of Giro D'Italia together with Vincenzo Torriani.

During the 80s and 90s, the business activity continues successfully; important sports icons such as Ayrton Senna, Patrick Depailler, Vittorio Brambilla, Gustav Thöni, Piero Gros and the entire French National Ski Team ride bicycles assembled with the skilful supervision of Sardi family.
